Cloves are an oustanding source of manganese. They are also a very good source of vitamins C and K, of minerals magnesium and calcium, and dietary fibre. Cloves have a warm, sweet and aromatic taste and aroma. Eugenol, the principal component of clove oil, is used in dentistry due to its analgesic, local anesthetic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. The inviting sent of cloves is a must in blends and stews. Cloves can be used in relieving a toothache by placing a single clove on the aching tooth leaving a numbing sensation in the mouth! Chewing one clove will also help with bad breath.
Healthy Punch:
INGREDIENTS
Water: 1/2 cup
Organic Pineapple Juice: 1 cup
Organic Orange Juice: 1/2 cup
Organic Orange: 1
Organic Whole Cloves: 3
Organic Whole Allspice Berries: 2
Organic Cinnamon Stick: 1
Organic Palm Sugar: 2 tbsp
Pink Salt: 1/8 tsp
Organic Cinnamon Sticks to garnish: 1/glass
Organic Red Wine (optional): 2 cups
DIRECTIONS
In a large stainless steel (non-aluminium) saucepan, combine water, pineapple and orange juice. Season with cloves, allspice berries, 1 cinnamon stick and pink salt. Cut the rind of the orange into strips and stir into the mixture. Bring to boil, reduce heat to let simmer for 15 minutes. Pour into the wine. Serve hot with a cinnamon stick to garnish.
